Battaglia has left North America to play for Jokerit in Finland, according to reports from overseas.

ANALYSIS
He has sailed off into the hockey wind and he will certainly not return to North America. His best season came in 2001-02 with Carolina when he delivered 46 points in the regular season and another 14 in the playoffs.

Once upon a time, there lived a plugger who worked hard, scored some points and helped the Hurricanes to the Cup finals. Since then, Battaglia has slipped into relative obscurity and is nothing more than a 30-something minor leaguer.

Battaglia is a great story -- a hockey story, not a fantasy hockey story, though. Bates signed an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies a couple seasons back in an attempt to resurrect a career that had, in a word, flopped. He showed his mettle with the Marlies and earned a full-season in Toronto last year. He's a role guy who won't get power-play time and probably won't do better statistically than he did last year. Avoid him on draft day.

Journeyman will probably ride the AHL-NHL "shuttle" (Toronto's minor league affiliate plays a short taxi ride away) for the Leafs this season.
