Calum Ritchie

Calum Ritchie

20-Year-Old CenterC
New York Islanders
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ritchie made his first seven NHL appearances with the Avalanche last year, logging one goal on 11 shots. He was sent back to OHL Oshawa, racking up 70 points over 47 regular-season appearances and another 25 points in 21 playoff contests. During that time, his NHL rights were flipped to the Islanders in a trade that sent Brock Nelson to Colorado. Ritchie may still be a bit away from being an NHL regular, but he should have more room to grow with the Islanders. If he misses out on the Opening Night roster, he'll likely play with AHL Bridgeport to begin 2025-26. Read Past Outlooks

Sent down to minors

Ritchie (lower body) was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Ritchie's demotion to the minors clears the way for him to return to action following his lower-body issue that saw him start the year on non-roster, injured reserve. Once the 20-year-old center gets his legs back under him, he should be in the mix for a call-up, though he figures to play the bulk of his games in the minors.

Important decision coming soon?
CColorado Avalanche  Minors
October 23, 2024
The Avalanche are expected to decide soon on whether to keep Ritchie on the NHL roster for the remainder of the season or return him to OHL Oshawa, Evan Liu of Mile High Hockey reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Ritchie made his seventh appearance of the 2024-25 campaign in Colorado's 3-2 win over Seattle on Tuesday, and this will count as the first year of his entry-level contract if he draws into the lineup for at least 10 games. For that reason, the Avalanche will likely decide soon if it's worth keeping him with the squad. If he continues to play, then that critical 10th outing would come Monday, but it's important to remember that the measurement is how many games Ritchie actually dresses for, so the Avalanche can delay the deadline by making him a healthy scratch. However, the 19-year-old would likely benefit the most from logging big minutes, so putting him in the press box for any significant amount of time might prove counterproductive. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Avalanche ultimately send him to Oshawa -- although he logged 16:05 of ice time in his NHL debut Oct. 9, his role has declined, and he received a career-low 7:14 on Tuesday.
