Set to begin his 12th full NHL season, de Haan will be joining the Avalanche after signing a one-year, $800K contract with the club in July. The veteran rearguard played a part-time role for the Lightning a year ago, appearing in 59 regular-season games and posting just three goals and 10 points. Now 33 years of age, de Haan appears to have a decent chance of opening the season as a regular on Colorado's third-pairing, likely alongside fellow newcomer Erik Brannstrom, but it's not a gig that will lead to any sort of fantasy relevance.

Heading overseas?
De Haan has been in talks with the SHL's Brynas IF about joining the team, according to Swedish news outlet Expressen.
ANALYSIS
De Haan remains unsigned by any NHL team as September and training camps approach, and it sounds like he might be looking overseas in an effort to continue his career. The 34-year-old spent last season split between the Avalanche and the Rangers, playing only three games with the latter after being scratched for the final 18 games of the year. He finished the season playing 47 total games, recording eight assists and a minus-4 rating.
