Almond has been loaned to Geneve-Servette in Switzerland, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
He was playing for AHL Iowa, but chose to return to Switzerland, where he spent the last two seasons. The Wild still own his NHL rights, but it seems unlikely he'll return this season, as there's no NHL role waiting for him.

Almond returns to the NHL this season to the Wild after thriving while playing pro in Switzerland. He struggled early in his career playing for Minnesota and he's not guaranteed a spot on the NHL roster when he returns. Yes, his scoring touch improved overseas, but there's no guarantee he can bring that touch back to North America. He shouldn't be on your draft radar.
Almond, a prospect of the Wild, racked up 15 goals, 19 assists and 124 penalty minutes with AHL Houston in 2010-11. He has good speed and is fearless on the ice, but fantasy owners won't go nuts over Almond until he can arrive in the NHL with a full-time job.
Almond has a chance to make the Wild as one of the final centers this preseason. He put up good scoring totals in the WHL but had just 18 points in 44 games last year in the AHL after a wrist injury derailed much of his season.
Almond was in line to battle it out for a spot on the Wild's roster this fall before a concussion derailed those plans. He's expected to miss all of training camp and will likely be sent to AHL Houston to begin his pro career. He put up solid numbers in the WHL last season, and has the potential to do the same in his first year in the Wild organization.
