Sanford signed a one-year deal to play with Lokomotiv of the KHL on Monday, Aaron Portzline reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanford went down in late March with a quadriceps tear and was on the shelf for the remainder of the year. Sanford posted a record of 10-18 with a 2.60 GAA and .911 save percentage for the Blue Jackets. It appears Columbus may have been Sanford's last stop on the NHL circuit.

Sanford will provide goaltending depth for the Blue Jackets' system, and in the likely event injury or ineffectiveness take down Steve Mason or Mark Dekanich it's Sanford who will get the call.
Sanford has proved a capable backup with the Canucks last year, but he will have to compete to return to the job in 2008-09. The Canucks are going to give Cory Schneider a chance to beat out Sanford for the job, but neither will hold value due to Roberto Luongo's massive workload.
Paid to backup Roberto Luongo, Sanford won't play a tremendous amount of minutes. In fact, his best NHL starts came against the Canucks, so he doesn't even have that to boost his value in 2007-08. He should be kept on the radar should anything happen to Luongo.
