ANALYSIS
Since he won't be headed back to North America this season, Larsson is effectively done as a member of the Red Wings' organization. Larsson has expressed interest in playing in the NHL, however, so it's possible that he'll get an opportunity to compete for a backup gig during training camp next summer depending on how scouts feel he's developed over the last two seasons in Sweden.

Larsson decided to return to Sweden this offseason, but the Red Wings have his NHL rights through the 2012-13 season. Put simply, he wasn't interested in playing a third season at Grand Rapids (AHL). He could enter the picture to back up Jimmy Howard in 2011-12 if Chris Osgood retires after the 2010-11 campaign as expected.
If the current arrangement holds with Chris Osgood and Ty Conklin holding the two roster spots in goal for the Wings, Larsson will spend this season in Grand Rapids (AHL), likely as the No. 2 behind Jimmy Howard. Detroit suddenly has three potential netminders of the future, although Howard is by far the most NHL-ready of the bunch. Larsson's an intriguing player to keep an eye on, as some scouts have compared him to Henrik Lundqvist.
