Koci was released as a Jets tryout Friday, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Koci is versatile, as he's capable of playing left wing and defense. However, the Czech native is virtually non-existent from an offensive standpoint, having accumulated only four points in 142 career games between the Blackhawks, Lightning, Blues and most recently, the Avalanche.

Koci will be back on the Avs' fourth line this season, and should really only be utilized in those fantasy leagues where penalty minutes are rewarded. He played in 43 games last season, a career high, and had a single goal to go along with 84 PIMs. However, he was often a healthy scratch in those games when coach Joe Sacco felt an enforcer's presence was not needed. There are better candidates out there for goon points - don't overspend on this guy.
Koci is a fighter, not a scorer, and has never played a full season in the NHL, dating back to 2006-07 with Chicago. He had 132 PIMs in 33 games with Tampa Bay two seasons ago, but appeared in only four games for St. Louis last year. He'll be used sparingly again this season with the Avs. He's a decent source for goon minutes, and not much else.
Koci could be given a spot as the Bolt's 13th man for one reason and one reason only -- his fists. The guy has bricks for hands -- he lands bombs but can't score worth a lick. So compare your common pugilists and see if he's worth a pick.
The fierce looking Czech only played in only 13 games for the Penguins top minor league team in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The previous season, he tallied 311 penalty minutes. Will probably see most of his time with Norfolk in the AHL.
Koci is a penalty minute waiting to happen. The problem is playing time for the 6-6, 235-pound defenseman. The Penguins added fighters Ryan VandenBussche and Andre Roy since last they skated, but Koci is a name to file away. The 24-year-old registered 311 PIM in 2004-05 while playing for Wilkes-Barre.
