Dominik Hasek

Call him mercurial, call him flaky, call him injury prone, fair enough. But you better call him talented, as well. Hasek’s still one of the better goalies around even at the age of 41, and he’s got a Berlin Wall in front of him, the best defensive group in the league. Even more than Nicklas Lidstrom this is someone Mike Babcock needs to handle very judiciously; if Hasek’s mind and body aren’t fresh when April rolls around, Detroit’s playoff upside is compromised significantly. Everyone remembers how Hasek’s year with the Senators ended (injured, out of action), but don’t forget the fantastic numbers he posted when he was on the ice (43 wins, 2.09 goals-against, .925 save percentage). In short, this is a guy who can make your season, or torpedo it. Do you feel lucky?

Hasek is poised to play 55-70 games this year for a talented Ottawa club. Only health concerns could keep the 40-year-old Hasek from being one of the the first goalies picked in your league's draft.
