Janik will head to training camp with an opportunity to open the season as a regular contributor to the Wings' blue-line corps. With just 18 points over 181 career NHL games, he's more valuable to his team a steady defender than he will be to yours as an offensive threat.
Janik will battle for one of the Red Wings' final roster spots during training camp, but he could be deemed expendable if he's outperformed by the likes of Brett Lebda, Jakub Kindl, Derek Meech and/or Andy Delmore in September. Even if he sticks, Janik isn't ticketed for a fantasy relevant role.
We see Janik as the Bolts' sixth defenseman IF one of the young fellows doesn't step up. No fantasy value here.
Janik is a role player who'll either spend most of the year in the last defense pairing or in the AHL.
Janik is a minor league journeyman who gets the occasional cup of NHL coffee. He hasn't made a big move in his quest to land a spot with the Sabres, though there might be more room now that Alexei Zhitnik isn't returning. He'd be a sixth or seventh defenseman even if he does get that far.
