Late Round 3 pick of Rangers
Fortescue was selected 90th overall by the Rangers in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Fortescue had a strong season with the US NTDP in 2022-23, logging heavy defensive minutes while displaying an excellent work ethic. His skating is about average. The main concern regarding Fortescue is a lack of offensive ability. He scored just one goal in 62 games this past year, something that doesn't bode well for the future. Committed to Boston College, Fortescue would do well to carve out a career as a bottom-pairing defender at the NHL level.

Set to return to college
Fortescue is expected to be back with Boston College next season, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Fortescue failed to find the back of the net this season, registering 11 assists in 36 games for the Eagles. Selected by the Rangers in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old defenseman would likely benefit from another year in college, further developing his game. Even then, Fortescue seems unlikely to immediately jump to the NHL ranks, likely stopping in the minors first.
