Eric O'Dell

O’Dell only played 30 games with the Jets in 2013-14, but is a popular pick to make the team out of training camp after posting 42 points in as many games with AHL St. John’s last year. He struggled during his stint with the Jets, recording just three goals and four assists in 30 appearances, but that’s normal for any rookie. He’s expected to get a shot at playing on the team’s third line in 2014-15, which is great news because he should get to skate with a solid centerman now that the team has added Mathieu Perreault. Whether his linemate is Perreault or Mark Scheifele, O’Dell will need to show that his AHL scoring touch can translate to the NHL level. His production has been around a point per game at every level and while it would be unreasonable to expect that type of production out of O’Dell this season, the team is clearly hoping he can bring some of that skill with him to Winnipeg. He’s not worth drafting at this point, but he’s certainly a guy worth keeping an eye for the first couple months of the season.

In 68 regular season games for the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves, O’Dell scored 33 goals and 35 assists. O’Dell is known for his play making ability and definitely has a lot of upside. That being said, O’Dell will probably spend the 2010-11 season in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves as he’s not quite ready for a jump straight to the NHL.
