Gavin McKenna

The highest expectations are thrust upon the No. 1 overall pick of a draft, but they don't always live up to the hype in their rookie year. However, there are good reasons to believe that McKenna will be one of those No. 1 picks who immediately shine. For starters, he'll have an opportunity to play alongside established stars like William Nylander, Auston Matthews and John Tavares, so McKenna will almost never find himself having to do it all on his own on the ice. McKenna has also shown he can excel against those older than him, as he did as a freshman for Penn State University with 15 goals and 51 points in 35 outings last year. It also helps that there's a physical edge to his game that should translate well to the NHL. You're always taking a risk when you draft a rookie, but it's not unrealistic to hope for him to challenge for the Calder with 60 or so points. Read Past Outlooks
