Boulerice has spent the last two winters playing for the Wilkes-Barre Baby Penguins (AHL). He scored seven points in 54 contests in 2010-11 and 11 in 67 games last year. The winger, who played his first AHL game back in 1998-99, figures to spend another year in the same league. He's averaged 136 penalty minutes the last two years, so if he does find a way into the NHL then he could provide his share of PIMs. Fantasy owners would be wise to steer clear of him, barring a change in his circumstances.
Boulerice spent all of 2010-11 in the AHL with the Baby Penguins. Playing in 67 games, the 34-year-old winger with a nasty disposition totaled 11 points (4 G, 7 A) and 147 penalty minutes. With eight goals, 10 points and 333 PIM in 172 career NHL contests, Boulerice's only potential fantasy value stems from his ability to earn penalty minutes.
The good news for Boulerice? He has 172 games of NHL experience between a number of seasons. Unfortunately, he only has eight goals and a pair of assists at hockey's highest level of competition. In 2010-11, the 32-year-old is expected to lace up his skates for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.
There will always be only one reason to have Boulerice on your fantasy team, and that is for penalty minutes. His Goon Quotient (PIM divided by points scored) was infinite, as he racked up just five shots on goal all season. He is a solid enforcer, but unless your roster has a place for an utterly one-dimensional player, you won't find much here. Expect about two penalty minutes per game played.
If you need an enforcer to beef up your PIM, then Boulerice is your man with the 'Canes. He won't shoot much; he won't score much; he will get something approaching two minutes per game of quality time in the penalty box.
