2025 Fantasy Outlook
Oesterle recorded four goals, 10 points, four PIM, 38 shots, 27 hits and 57 blocks in 37 outings while averaging 17:09 of ice time between Boston and Nashville in 2024-25. The 33-year-old is a depth defenseman, so it’s not surprising that he logged just 37 games last year, and Oesterle will probably see limited opportunities again with Nashville this season unless long-term injuries thrust him into a bigger role. When he is in the lineup, though, Oesterle is a solid source of blocks, and he does okay offensively. Read Past Outlooks
Waived for reassignment
Oesterle was waived by the Predators on Monday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Oesterle has plenty of NHL experience under his belt (408 games), so it wouldn't be a complete shock to see a team snag him off waivers to serve as a seventh defenseman. Either way, the 33-year-old blueliner shouldn't be expected to be an every-night player at this point in his career, so fantasy players, even in deep formats, will probably want to pursue other options.

Oesterle's usage was way down in his second season in Detroit. He appeared in just 52 of 82 games for the team (two goals, 11 points) and his 15:39 average ice time was his lowest mark in any season in which Oesterle has appeared in at least 43 games. The 31-year-old Michigan native linked up with the Flames in free agency on a one-year, $925K contract. As things stand heading into training camp, Oesterle appears to be competing with Dennis Gilbert for a spot in the Calgary Opening Night lineup.
