Wyman signed a one-year contract with the Avs in the offseason after scoring 38 points in 76 games with the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Wyman is a gritty, 6-2, 212-lb forward whose size and style appeals to the small, speedy Avs. Wyman will likely spend the majority of the 2013-2014 season in the minors, but will add another dimension to the offense at either level.
Wyman split his time between Tampa and Norfolk last season, delivering 11 points in 40 games with the big club and 12 in 29 with the baby club. He has good hands and a lightning release, but at 26, he's no longer a prospect. He will contend for a bottom-six job out of camp.
Wyman is pretty much a career minor leaguer looking for a fresh start in a new system. He delivered 18 goals and as many assists in 80 games with the Canadiens' AHL affiliate last season and followed that up with a decent eight points in 20 playoff games. He'll be patrolling the ice in Norfolk this year and it'll take a plane wreck of injuries for him to see time in the NHL.
In 2007-08, as a senior with the University of Dartmouth Big Green, Wyman played 29 games, leading the team with 15 goals and ranking second in scoring with 30 points (15-15). The 22-year-old assistant captain with Dartmouth registered personal bests in the ECAC for goals, assists, and points. Wyman will play in Hamilton of the AHL this season.
