Logan Shaw

Montreal claimed Shaw off waivers midseason when injuries hit the forward corps hard. He was immediately placed on the fourth line and had some good moments with that group, scoring twice in a three-game span before the unit's subpar possession metrics caught up with them. He finished with a career-high 14 points, but the Canadiens didn't have room on the roster for another right winger and did not tender the restricted free agent an offer. He signed a PTO with the Flames in September, but was ultimately released ahead of the new season. The forward position is much too deep in fantasy to worry about a guy who has had trouble asserting himself in the NHL.

Shaw will be making his professional debut in 2013-14, but was an offensive power last season when he racked up 26 goals and 42 assists in 67 games with the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL. He'll probably start out the season in the AHL and will most likely spend the whole year there, but if the Panthers are struggling again it wouldn't be surprising to see him get the call. It's a long shot, but he could come up and be asked to make an offensive impact this season. He has a really high ceiling, but the smart play would be to wait and let him prove himself before jumping on him too early.
