Logan Thompson

Logan Thompson

29-Year-Old GoalieG
Washington Capitals
2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a shock trade from Vegas to Washington, Thompson delivered one of the more surprisingly good seasons in goal in 2024-25. He went 31-6-6 with a 2.49 GAA and a .910 save percentage over 43 appearances, a larger part of some unexpected success for the Capitals overall. There was some doubt about how Thompson would perform outside of the Golden Knights' system, but 2024-25 proved he is a strong goalie in his own right. The one downside for fantasy managers is that there will be no easy path to a full starter's workload, as the Capitals have both Thompson and Charlie Lindgren signed to multi-year deals to operate as a tandem. Thompson is the better of the two, potentially at a level to be a low-end No. 1 option in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks

Dials in for shutout
GWashington Capitals
April 12, 2026
Thompson halted all 24 shots on goal in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Penguins.
ANALYSIS
Thompson picked up his fourth consecutive win Sunday, as well as his fourth shutout of the season. Overall, he is up to a 31-21-6 record, a 2.44 GAA and a .912 save percentage across 58 appearances this season. He's been a workhorse in net for the Capitals, appearing in 19 of the team's last 22 games. Thompson has 12 wins and a .908 save percentage in that span, making him an excellent fantasy option while the Caps make a push for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. He could be a Vezina Trophy candidate thanks to his strong play this season.

Thompson arrived in Washington over the summer after requesting a trade out of Vegas. He is seeking more playing time after splitting starts with Adin Hill in 2023-24. However, the 27-year-old Thompson will compete with last season's breakout darling, Charlie Lindgren, to be the top dog with the Capitals. Thompson has a chance to earn the gig. He has a record of 56-32-11 with four shutouts, a 2.67 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 103 career NHL appearances. He's two inches taller and 25 pounds heavier than Lindren and almost four years younger. Thompson and Lindgren will likely share starts until one of them gets hot. That works in daily formats, but it can be difficult for fantasy managers in weekly leagues.
The first half of 2022-23 couldn't have gone much better for Thompson, as he was named an All-Star and looked like a finalist for the Calder Trophy before an injury-plagued second half of the campaign. He finished the year with a 21-13-3 record, a 2.65 GAA and a .915 save percentage -- perfectly fine numbers to be the Golden Knights' No. 1 goalie in 2023-24 if it weren't for Adin Hill leading Vegas to a Stanley Cup title in Thompson's absence. With Robin Lehner still a big question mark while recovering from hip surgery, Vegas' goaltending is in good hands between Thompson and Hill. Thompson may have to settle for a tandem situation, but he should still get into at least 30 games, making him a viable depth goalie in fantasy.
Thompson had appeared in just one NHL contest prior to last season, but Vegas got crushed by injuries in 2021-22, resulting in the former undrafted free agent seeing action in 19 top-level games and finishing with a 10-5-3 record, a 2.68 GAA and a .914 save percentage. It was commendable work by Thompson considering the circumstances, and the Golden Knights may very well need more of it this year. It was announced in August that Robin Lehner would undergo hip surgery and miss the entire 2022-23 season. Vegas' other goaltender, Laurent Broissoit (undisclosed), is also injured and won't be ready for Opening Night. It's Thompson's net to lose at this point. Remember him on draft day.

Thompson has informed Hockey Canada that he will not be joining the team for the 2026 IIHF World Championship, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was part of Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where he sat behind Jordan Binnington and saw action in just one game. During the NHL season, Thompson set a new career best with 58 games played, but wasn't able to top his 31 wins from the prior year. He should once again find himself pushing the 60-game mark in 2026-27 and figures to be one of the top goaltender options for fantasy managers.
