Returns to AHL training camp
Skapski was cut from the Rangers' training camp roster and sent to AHL Hartford, the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
This was always going to happen, as Skapski is at best the Rangers' fourth-string goalie. Still just 22, he's coming off a rough year split between the AHL and ECHL; the B.C. native will need to show improvement in the minors this year to secure an NHL future.

Blocked by Henrik Lundqvist and Cam Talbot a season ago, it seemed like the 6-foot-3 Skapski had no shot of making his NHL debut anytime soon. However, a long-term injury to Lundqvist created a path for Talbot to take the reins of the full-time role, paving the way for Skapski to enter the fray as a backup. After a solid showing at AHL Hartford (15-8-1, 2.40 GAA), Skapski earned two starts for the Rangers -- with both coming against the lackluster Sabres -- posting a perfect 2-0 record including a shutout. Now a year later, with Cam Talbot shipped off to Edmonton, Skapski initially appeared well positioned for the No. 2 job, but the addition shortly thereafter of the more experienced Antti Raanta will likely keep Skapski at Hartford again. After undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery in early June that could sideline him for the start of the AHL season, Skapski isn't expected to pose a real challenge to Raanta in training camp.
