Bodie agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL) on Friday.

ANALYSIS
Bodie garnered an impressive six goals, 31 assists and plus-32 rating in 74 outings for AHL Syracuse last season. Despite his stellar minor-league numbers, the blueliner was never able to earn a callup with the Lightning. If the 28-year-old can continue to contribute offensively overseas, he may find himself with a handful of NHL suitors down the road.

After winning the NCAA Championship with Union College in the spring of 2014, the Rangers signed Bodie as an undrafted free agent. While the 25-year-old enjoyed a very productive first professional season with AHL Hartford, posting eight goals and 31 assists in 90 combined regular season and playoff games, there’s currently a logjam on the Rangers' blue line, which will likely result in Bodie spending another season at Hartford to hone his game.

Fresh off a National Championship, defenseman Matt Bodie makes for an interesting college free agent signing. The 24-year-old former Dutchmen captain ended a terrific four-year career with Union College averaging 31 PIM a season while recording 124 points (28 goals) a plus-84 rating in 154 total games. Considering his maturity level and already proven leadership, Bodie should slot in immediately at AHL Hartford this fall.
