Ellis was reassigned to AHL St. John's on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old defenseman got his first taste of the NHL, serving three games as the Canadiens' sixth defenseman. Ellis played very sheltered minutes during his stint, essentially erasing any chance he would have at producing offensively. He has, however, been a factor in the AHL (31 points in 56 games).

2013 Fantasy Outlook
Ellis skated for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL in 2012-13, his first professional season. The rookie led all Bulldogs defenseman with 71 games played and had four goals and four assists. The native of Prince Edward Island used the ample playing time he received in 2012-13 to develop the finer aspects of defending -- like limiting the time and space for opponents, and engaging them physically in his own zone. He's not as offensive-minded as his statistics at the junior level might suggest, but Ellis has developed into a nice two-way defender. His calm demeanor and leadership are traits teams look for in their prospects. He'll likely spend another full season at Hamilton.
