Retiring due to concussion problems
Lieuwen has retired from professional hockey due to ongoing concussion issues, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Lieuwen sustained a severe concussion on April 6, 2014 when he was hit in the head by Philadelphia's Jay Rosehill as he was coming across the goal crease. Lieuwen experienced some of the common symptoms of a concussion, but he suffered from a more uncommon one as well -- his vision was completely thrown off and since then, he has never been able to track the puck as easily as he could before the incident. It's an unfortunate story, especially considering the goalie is just 25 years old, but the silver lining is that Lieuwen said he plans to stay involved with hockey, perhaps becoming a goalie coach sometime in the near future.

2015 Fantasy Outlook
Lieuwen, a former sixth-round pick, took a step backwards in his development last year, serving as the backup in AHL Rochester after appearing in seven games with the Sabres the previous season. He won just four times in 16 appearances and posted an atrocious 3.29 GAA and a poor .883 save percentage before he was shut down for much of the season due to a concussion. As an impending free agent, Lieuwen should be motivated heading into the upcoming campaign, but he'll face stiff competition from Rochester's two other goalies and could end up as either a backup goalie or even get assignment to the ECHL.
