The Flyers signed Deschenes to a one-year entry-level contract on Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
"Nick Deschenes is a big, strong, power-forward-type player," Paul Holmgren, the Flyers' assistant general manager, said in a statement. "We look forward to having him in the system. We think that there is some upside with Nick because of his size and because of the way that he skates." Deschenes, 24, had 19 points and 37 penalty minutes as a senior at Yale last season, and in his four years he had 36 goals and 51 assists. He's a bit old to be a major prospect, but if he starts doing big things at the minor league level he's old enough to conceivably play in a Philadelphia uniform next season.
