Following major hip surgery in March, Leclaire announced Tuesday that he's retiring from hockey, NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Leclaire had a decent NHL career as a sometimes No. 1 or capable backup, but he never got to taste much in the way of playoff victory since he was a Blue Jacket for most of his career. He'll finish with a 61-76-15 record and 2.89 goals-against average, .904 save percentage and 10 shutouts.

Leclaire enters the 2011-12 campaign without an employer. A former first-rounder that has battled a few injuries in his career, Leclaire was waived by Ottawa in February of last year after posting a 4-7-1 record with a less-than-impressive 2.83 goals-against average. Lelcaire could be a serviceable backup at this point in his career and could be worth a look should he receive the opportunity to reignite his career when he lands at a club.

Following major hip surgery in March, Leclaire is still unable to pass medical tests and is noticeably slow to recover when he goes down on the ice. He fully acknowledges that his hip can’t withstand the “pressure” and “torque” that is required to perform at the highest level and says he couldn’t currently keep up with the pace of an NHL practice, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
