Brisebois retired on Thursday, ending his 18-year career, the Associated Press reports.

ANALYSIS
Brisebois spent 16 years of his career with the Canadiens, retiring in third place on the franchise list for games by a defenseman (896) and winning a Stanley Cup in 1993. He'll now trade in his skates for a racing helmet -- he hopes to race in NASCAR's Canadian series.

Brisebois is back for another season and will provide much needed veteran depth on the Habs' blueline as the seventh defenseman. Brisebois won't have any fantasy value unless a top-six defenseman gets hurt, at which point he could be useful in very deep leagues because he'd be in line for a starting role on the second power-play unit.

Brisebois' days of fantasy relevance are likely over unless the Habs lose two of these three to major injury -- Andrei Markov, Roman Hamrlik, and Marc Streit -- and projects as a seventh D-man who will get some minutes on the second power-play when he's dressed for games.

Brisebois recorded a career-high 38 points (10 goals, 28 assists) in 2005-06. Four of those points came on the power play. With the departure of Rob Blake, Brisebois will probably get even more scoring opportunities this season.

If you're slotting your D-men for draft day, Breezer should be put in the 35+ points group. He'll be a regular on the power-play and should boast a positive double-digit plus/minus total.
