Nedved officially announced his retirement from hockey Friday, NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 42-year-old has played the last seven seasons in Europe after a 15-year NHL career with the Canucks, Blues, Penguins, Rangers, Oilers, Coyotes and Flyers. He was among the most prized fantasy assets back in the day, with his 99-point campaign with the Penguins in 1995-96 amounting to his greatest NHL season.

Nedved had a terrible season in 2005-06 and there is little reason to think there will be a ton of improvement this year. Somewhere around 20 goals and 45 points sounds about right.
For Nedved, the best thing for him might have been to get out of New York City. This will be his 14th season and the sun of Arizona might be the best thing for the veteran, who ranks 28th among active players this season in goals and 33rd in points. Over the last five seasons, he has averaged 25 goals, 34 assists, 59 points and 78 games and should benefit from more of a wide-open style this year. It might not be a return to his 1995-96 production (45/54/99), but he should make for a good #2 or #3 center.
