2026 Fantasy Outlook
Kuznetsov established himself as a decent top-four blueliner in a tough situation in 2025-26. He earned four goals, eight assists, 64 shots on net, 79 hits, 102 blocked shots, 28 PIM and a minus-8 rating over 57 appearances. He started the campaign with AHL Calgary but was an NHL regular from November on. A 2020 mid-round pick, Kuznetsov doesn't have much scoring upside, but he has room to grow in that area. What he will bring is steady defensive play, allowing the Flames' more talented young blueliners some room to shine in the offensive zone. Kuznetsov should push into the neighborhood of 15-20 points with 120-plus blocks, 100-plus hits and 40-plus PIM, giving him some appeal as a depth option in banger leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Kuznetsov (upper body) is healthy and will be present at training camp later this week, Pat Steinberg of QR Calgary 770 AM reports Monday.

Kuznetsov missed the final three games of 2025-26 and 11 of the final 16 due to an upper-body injury. General manager Craig Conroy said Monday that every player with the exception of Jonathan Huberdeau (hip) is healthy ahead of this season, so the Flames' blue line is currently at full strength. Kuznetsov might have the inside track at starting on the left side of the team's third pairing, but he will have Joel Hanley to compete with for minutes in 2026-27.

Even with his promotion, Kuznetsov is unlikely to have a significant fantasy impact as he likely won't see a ton of minutes and eventually figures to head back to the minors.
