2025 Fantasy Outlook
It's safe to assume, after a successful stint with AHL San Jose (11-9-1 record, 2.45 GAA and .923 save percentage), that Askarov will be in the NHL for 2025-26. Whether that's as a starter, a backup or a tandem goalie remains to be seen, though it shouldn't be long before that's not a question anymore. Askarov is the team's goalie of the future, and it won't be long before he's the clear starter leading the team's youth movement. Don't put too much weight on his NHL numbers from last year, as a 3.10 GAA and a .896 save percentage behind such an inexperienced team wasn't bad. Askarov will be a factor in fantasy, but his value will be determined by how much of a step forward the Sharks take as a unit. Read Past Outlooks
Not sharp enough Tuesday
Askarov allowed four goals on 14 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
The Sharks dominated possession, but Askarov wasn't good enough on the few chances the Kings accumulated. The four goals didn't even come from the Kings' best players. It was a pair of fourth-liners and two defensemen who carried the offense. Askarov continues to offer subpar goaltending, though this is part of the growing pains as the Sharks attempt to become more competitive. He is 1-4-1 with a 4.69 GAA and an .844 save percentage this season. The Sharks host the Devils on Thursday.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Askarov is the best goaltending prospect in pro hockey and his time will come, which could be in 2024-25 after he was acquired by the Sharks in a trade from Nashville. He has it all - elite skills, incredible feet and extraordinary quickness and athleticism. It certainly wasn't the backstop's skills that saw him shipped off the San Jose. The Preds are a team with cup aspirations and signed starter Juuse Saros to an eight-year extension. Askarov could be in contention for the starting job alongside Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek. It likely will take most of training camp for a decision to be made, so Askarov may need to be on your draft radar.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could share crease
Askarov may share the crease with Alex Nedeljkovic in 2025-26, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News posited Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Askarov is viewed as the Sharks' starter, but he'll still have to earn his share of games. It's unclear whether head coach Ryan Warsofsky will go with a strict rotation early in the year or opt to ride the hot hand instead. Nonetheless, Askarov will not be gifted any playing time -- though he could take on the No. 1 role if he exceeds expectations.
