2026 Fantasy Outlook
Metsa is a bit of a late bloomer, but he was able to make his NHL debut in 2025-26, one day after his 27th birthday. He logged two goals, four assists, 24 shots on net, 31 blocked shots and a plus-16 rating over 43 regular-season appearances and added a goal in two playoff games. Metsa's numbers last year didn't really stand out in any area, but he is steady enough in his own zone to fill a depth role. If he were able to log a full season at the NHL level, he'd likely produce around 10 points with 60-plus blocks and 50-plus shots. Even in deep fantasy leagues, Metsa is unlikely to be much of a difference maker in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks
Inks one-year extension
Metsa signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Sabres on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Metsa is set to play out the second season of his two-year, $1.63 million contract in 2026-27, but before he signed this extension, he was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The 27-year-old had two goals, six points, a plus-16 rating, eight PIM, five hits and 31 blocks in 43 regular-season outings in 2025-26. Metsa is likely to make Buffalo's Opening Night roster, but he might not be in the lineup regularly.

Metsa will likely make his NHL debut against the Canadiens on Monday, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was recalled by the Sabres on Thursday, and while head coach Lindy Ruff didn't reveal the lineup following Monday's morning skate, Metsa seems likely to suit up since he left the ice early. He's made two appearances for AHL Rochester this year, and he was held to no points with a minus-2 rating.
