Proves to be no match for super prospect Aaron Pico at Bellator 206
September 29, 2018
Hugo lost to Aaron Pico via TKO (punches) at 3:19 on Round 1 at Bellator 206 on Saturday in San Jose, Calif.
Higo had the experience edge in this fight. Unfortunately for him, Pico proved once again that he is a legitimate prospect. Higo did solid work with his movement on the outside early. However, it was only a matter of time until Pico closed the distance and unloaded with a combination. After being dropped, Higo managed to get back to his feet. Pico did not let him off the hook and finished the fight. Higo falls to 1-3 in Bellator since joining the promotion last year.
Comes up short in title challenge at Bellator 195
March 2, 2018
Higo lost to Darrion Caldwell via submission (guillotine) at 2:36 of Round 1 at Bellator 195 on Friday in Thackerville, Okla.
Since losing on the fourth season of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil," Higo had won five of his last six fights. He earned a second title shot after defeating Joe Taimanglo last October. However, he did not have the chance to show very much against Caldwell. About halfway through the first round, Caldwell closed the distance, scored a takedown and locked on the fight-ending choke. Higo is still one of the best bantamweights in the company, but it will take him a few more wins to get back into the title picture.
Slated for Darrion Caldwell at Bellator 195
December 19, 2017

Picks up first Bellator win over Joe Taimanglo at Bellator 184
October 6, 2017
Higo defeated Joe Taimanglo via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) at Bellator 184 on Friday in Thackerville, Okla.
Higo's only real concerns in this fight were clinch takedown attempts and power strikes. Taimanglo did not have the reach or technical skill to land consistently. Higo landed serveral hard combinations from the outside and defended against the takedown quite well. On a few occasions, he was able to overpower Taimanglo in the clinch and score his own takedowns. It would have been nice to see him open up his offense. Towards the end of the fight, there was a wild exchange. Taimanglo took the back standing in a scramble. Higo escape and tried to finish with a guillotine choke, but Taimanglo made the final bell. In both of his Bellator appearance -- this fight and against bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas -- Higo has looked solid. With that being said, he probably could have turned it on and done a lot more damage in both bouts. As the adage says, a win is a win, and Higo will probably end up earning a shot at the Bellator bantamweight title in the relatively near future. With the victory, the Brazilian improved his professional record to 18-3.
Will fight Joe Taimanglo at Bellator 184
August 7, 2017
Higo will fight Joe Taimanglo at Bellator 184 on Oct. 6.
Higo has been extremely successful throughout his career, owning a 17-3 record overall. He's won eight of his last nine fights, but is coming off a split decision loss to Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 177 in April, so he'll be looking to get back on track at Bellator 184. Higo will be taking on the 5-foot-4 Joe Taimanglo, but both fighters are typically used to taking it to the ground, so that could lessen the impact of the height and reach advantage. Either way, both fighters are in need of a bounce-back win, as Taimanglo is also coming off a loss to Darrion Caldwell back in December.
