Needs new opponent
June 24, 2020
Romero Borella will require a new opponent after Miranda Maverick backed out of UFC on ESPN 12 on Wednesday, Damon Martin of reports.
Romero Borella was set to welcome Maverick to the UFC in her debut, but she'll now need another opponent on rather short notice. She is looking to break out of a three-bout losing streak and has lost four of her last five, so Romero Borella may need the victory to continue booking consistent fights.
Will welcome Maverick to UFC
June 18, 2020
Romero Borella will welcome Miranda Maverick to the UFC in a flyweight matchup scheduled for June 27 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Romero Borella has now dropped three consecutive fights following a May 16 submission defeat at the hands of Courtney Casey. While the flyweight division is generally regarded as shallow, she could be on her last legs with the UFC if unable to handle the debuting Maverick. Maverick has won four fights in a row with Invicta, most recently besting former UFC fighter Pearl Gonzalez in April. If there's a bright side for Romero Borella, she'll enter this fight with roughly a three-inch advantage in height and four-inch advantage in reach.
Draws medical suspension
May 18, 2020
Romero Borella has been given a six-month medical suspension following her loss via submission to Cortney Casey at UFC Fight Night in Jacksonville, Damon Martin of reports.
Romero Borella didn't make it past Round 1 of Saturday's contest, though she appeared to be logging a strong performance before leaving herself exposed to a submission at the 3:36 mark. Now riding a three-fight losing streak, the 34-year-old could still be allowed to return ahead of the six-month timetable if cleared by an independent physician.
Losing streak hits three
May 16, 2020
Romero Borella lost to Cortney Casey via submission (Armbar) at 3:36 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Jacksonville.
It's a crushing loss for Romero Borella in a fight in which she was in full control. The Italian was well on her way to winning the round and appeared to be in no trouble whatsoever until she left her arm exposed. Casey quickly clamped on the arm bar and the fight was over just seconds later. This is going to be a difficult one for the soon-to-be 34-year-old to bounce back from. Romero Borella is now riding a three-fight losing streak and is sporting a 1-4 record in her past five bouts.
Headed to Jacksonville
April 30, 2020
Romero Borella will take on Courtney Casey in a flyweight matchup at a UFC Fight Night event on May 16 in Jacksonville, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
Romero Borella has dropped back-to-back fights, and like Casey, has lost three of her last four overall. There have been positives from her UFC run, however, as she out-landed title contender Katlyn Chookagian in a fight that went the distance, and the recent Murphy loss was a bout she was winning until a perfectly-placed knee connected. Romero Borella will now welcome Casey up to flyweight from the strawweight division, but the two still measure up relatively equally. Casey owns a major edge in striking volume, but Romero Borella has much more of an offensive wrestling skill set in her arsenal.
