Suffers first-round KO at hands of Eddie Wineland
Mizugaki lost to Eddie Wineland via TKO (punches) at 3:04 of Round 1 at UFC on FOX 22 on Saturday in Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
The stoppage from referee Edward Collantes may have come a tad early, but Mizugaki was getting hammered pretty good. Mizugaki was getting the far better of the action early on, but he was caught with one huge right hand that set up the sequence that ended the fight. All of the losses have come against crazy competition (Wineland, Cody Garbrandt, Aljamain Sterling, Dominick Cruz), but Takeya is now just 1-4 in his last five fights. Three of those four losses have been first-round KO setbacks. It's a serious concern for a fighter who at age-33, isn't getting any younger.

Mizugaki proved once again that he just isn't on the level of any of the top bantamweights on the UFC roster. Outside of a split decision win over Bryan Caraway in March 2013, Mizugaki has lost every single time he has been asked to face a top opponent. He has now lost three of his last four following a five-fight winning streak. At age 32, this is Mizugaki's ceiling. With so much depth in the UFC's 135-pound division, it's clear that the Japanese veteran isn't a top-10 fighter anymore.

Mizugaki had lost back-to-back fights against Dominick Cruz and Aljamain Sterling, but people forget how good this guy is. A legitimate top-10 bantamweight, Mizugaki should be fighting guys who are considerably better than Roop. Mizugaki struggled a bit in the clinch in the third round, but he beat up Roop on the feet during the ten minutes and he certainly deserved the win. An extremely smart fighter with a master's degree in electrical engineering, the 31-year-old Mizugaki is going to get a bigger name in his next fight. He may not be as good as the top guys in the division, but he's far better than roster depth such as Roop.
