Looks strong despite defeat

Sekulic lost to Dwight Grant via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 261 on Saturday in Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Sekulic was unlucky here on multiple counts. First off, he likely deserved the decision. He started slowly and struggled with distance in Round 1 before picking up the pace considerably over the course of the final ten minutes. If that's not bad enough, Sekulic had Grant in an extremely tight guillotine and likely would have gotten the stoppage had there been just a handful of additional seconds on the clock in the final frame. It was a very strong effort for a guy who hadn't fought since September 2018. Of course, that prolonged layoff was all Sekulic's doing considering he was handed a two-year suspension after testing positive for multiple banned substances.

ANALYSIS
As a result of this suspension, Sekulic will be unable to fight until after Oct. 31, 2020. In the lone UFC fight of his career so far, he was defeated by Ramazan Emeev by unanimous decision, though that was just the second defeat of his career across all promotions.
Drops unanimous decision in UFC debut

September 15, 2018
Sekulic was defeated by Ramazan Emeev via unanimous decision (28-29, 27-30, 26-30) at UFC Moscow on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Sekulic didn't mount much offense in his debut. He was on his back foot for the majority of the match and didn't land many strikes. He got 3 takedowns, but Emeev was able to roll through them by attempting a kimura each time. It was a very underwhelming debut and Sekulic may have had Octagon jitters. Hopefully he is more aggressive in future fights.
