Handed first UFC loss in hard scrap
June 22, 2019
Aguilar lost to Dan Ige via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29. 27-29) at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
Aguilar was holding his own with his opponent for the majority of the fight until a strong overhand right left him nearly out on his feet. Aguilar was able to withstand the onslaught that followed, but it was clear that he had let the fight slip away. Aguilar showed some impressive grappling chops against the black belt in Ige but he tends to look for counter shots exclusively which limits his output and allows his opponent to dictate the flow of the fight. He falls to 17-2 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

Aguilar upset Enrique Barzola in his last trip to the Octagon to remain a perfect 2-0 in the UFC and bring his professional record up to 17-1. He'll hold a two-inch reach advantage when he meets Ige, the winner of three consecutive fights. The sample sizes are small, but Aguilar sports slightly better volume striking numbers, while Ige has a slight edge in striking defense.
Pulls upset over Enrique Barzola in Philly
March 30, 2019
Aguilar defeated Enrique Barzola via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 2 on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Just two fights into his UFC career, Aguilar now has a pair of victories over respected veterans (Barzola, Rick Glenn) on his resume. The 30-year-old Texan has shown some pop in his hands and an ability to eat return fire. He stuffed all seven of Barzola's takedown attempts on Saturday and racked up an insurmountable lead in the bout after taking rounds 1 and 2. Barzola is a solid opponent and Aguilar's victory here makes him worth keeping an eye on moving forward.

Shines in UFC debut
November 30, 2018
Aguilar defeated Rick Glenn via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale in Las Vegas on Friday.
Aguilar is a natural counter fighter, and didn't miss very often against Glenn, stinging the veteran with hard shots when he tried to fight in the pocket. "The Angel of Death" capped off his performance with a knockdown and near finish in the third round. While he clearly has skills, the fact that he allows himself to be pressured so readily could be an issue for Aguilar when he fights some of the better strikers in the division. He moves to 16-1 in his professional career as a result of the victory.
