Crushing setback in Vegas

June 13, 2020
Aguilar lost to Charles Rosa via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing setback for Aguilar in a fight he had to have. The judge's appeared to get this one correct, and that's highly concerning for Aguilar considering he was going up against a below-average striker in a fight that was primarily contested in the stand up. Aguilar got off to a quick start before fading over the course of the final ten minutes. Hit output on the feet was low, and he appeared confused and hesitant to pull the trigger. A former product of Dana White's Contender Series, Aguilar began his UFC run with a pair of unanimous decision wins but has dropped three in a row since.

Aguilar is scheduled to fight Charles Rosa in a featherweight match at the UFC's June 13 event, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar is coming off back-to-back losses, with his most recent defeat having come against Zubaira Tukhugov in Round 1 at UFC Fight Night 168 in Auckland, New Zealand. The 31-year-old will be at a two-inch height disadvantage come June, but he'll have room to make up for it via his superior reach.

Aguilar lost to Zubaira Tukhugov via TKO (punches) at 3:21 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night 168 in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar has been notoriously hard to hurt in his MMA career, but that meant nothing to Tukhugov, who pounced on "The Angel of Death" after landing a huge hook early. While his style of power counterpunching has served Aguilar well in the past, it just allowed Tukuhugov too much time to measure and land the strike. After nice wins in his first two UFC fights, Aguilar has now lost two in a row, which may call into question his extreme countering style. He falls to 17-3 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

Handed first UFC loss in hard scrap

Aguilar lost to Dan Ige via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29. 27-29) at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar was holding his own with his opponent for the majority of the fight until a strong overhand right left him nearly out on his feet. Aguilar was able to withstand the onslaught that followed, but it was clear that he had let the fight slip away. Aguilar showed some impressive grappling chops against the black belt in Ige but he tends to look for counter shots exclusively which limits his output and allows his opponent to dictate the flow of the fight. He falls to 17-2 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
