Gets stopped after big first round
July 24, 2021
Costa lost to Andrian Yanez via TKO (punches) at 2:11 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 27 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's hard to imagine a fight turning quite so suddenly, but Costa looked to be in complete control with his jab in Round 1. We saw evidence of the dam breaking at the end of the frame, however, when Yanez began using his own jab and pouring on the pressure. Costa seems to have all the talent in the world, but his inexperience outside of the first round leaves him short on options if he doesn't get the early finish. He falls to 6-2 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

Slated for July 24 fight
April 27, 2021
Costa (undisclosed) will take on Adrian Yanez in a bantamweight fight at the UFC's July 24 event, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Costa and Yanez had recently shared some friendly banter over Twitter but will now step into the Octagon to officially settle the score. Costa was forced to withdraw from his last scheduled bout for March 6 due to an undisclosed injury, but he'll apparently be ready to go by late July. He is coming off of two straight first-round wins after falling in his UFC debut, and he'll aim to keep that streak alive against Yanez.
Withdraws from upcoming fight
February 16, 2021
Costa withdrew from his upcoming fight against Trevin Jones on Tuesday due to an undisclosed injury, MMAJunkie.com reports.
Costa didn't say specifically what the injury was but said on his personal Twitter page that he expects to be able to fight again in May. The UFC will reportedly attempt to keep Jones on the same card against a new opponent rather than pushing the fight back a few months.
Set to fight Trevin Jones
November 28, 2020
Costa will fight Trevin Jones at UFC 259 on March 6th, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
Costa is coming off a knockout win over Journey Newson in September. He has now won six of his first seven professional fights via first-round knockouts. Meanwhile, Jones will make his first appearance following a suspension, which he received for a positive marijuana test. Jones is 12-6-0 as a professional fighter.
41-second knockout victory
September 19, 2020
Costa defeated Journey Newson via KO (head kick) at 0:41 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
That should be more than enough to earn Costa a $50,00 Performance of the Night bonus, which he did end up receiving at the conclusion of the show. Fighting for the first time in 11 months, Costa picked his spot and unloaded a head kick that turned Newson's lights out. You can't do it any better. The sample size is extremely small, but Costa has now earned first-round knockout victories in six of his first seven professional fights. His only defeat came to Brandon Davis in his UFC debut back in April 2019.
To return Saturday
September 14, 2020
Costa will take on Journey Newson in a bantamweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Sept. 19 in Las Vegas.
Originally targeted for Sept. 26, this fight will remain stateside in the UFC's final show before heading back to Fight Island for UFC 253. Costa lost his UFC debut via submission to Brandon Davis all the way back in April of 2019, but bounced back with a first-round finish of Boston Salmon the following October. He was targeted for a fight with Martin Day in March, but it was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He'll take on an opponent in Newson who earned a victory (that was later overturned) back in February when he finished Domingo Pilarte in the first round. While Costa owns massive advantages of four inches in height and six inches in reach, he still finds himself a slight betting underdog of roughly (+120) as of the start of fight week.
