Debut ends in brutality
October 17, 2020
Striegl lost to Said Numagomedov via KO (punches) at 0:51 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Striegl came into the organization as a pressure-striking wrestler but didn't get much of a chance to show off his skills, as he ate a clean left hook on the way in that put him off his senses. It was academic from there, as Nurmagomedov never let up, getting top position and finishing with vicious ground-and pound. Striegl's basic skill set could yield results in the UFC, but he's going to have to do something about his defense, which has presented problems for him in the past. He falls to 18-3 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
New debut date set
September 3, 2020
Striegl is in line to take on Said Nurmagomedov at the UFC event scheduled for Oct. 17, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
The weight class this will be contested at is unclear at this time, as is the location, though it is rumored to be part of the UFC's return to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. Striegl was supposed to make his UFC debut in a featherweight matchup against Timur Valiev back on Aug. 22, but was pulled from the bout two days before due to undisclosed reasons. He'll instead take on a solid opponent in Nurmagomedov, who is 2-1 under the UFC banner.
Off Saturday's card
August 20, 2020
Striegl is out of this Saturday's featherweight matchup against Timur Valiev due to undisclosed reasons, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Striegl was gaining some steam as a possible upset pick despite the betting odds putting him as a (+415) underdog, but he'll no longer compete at UFC on ESPN 15. Instead, Trevin Jones will step up to face Valiev on short notice.
