Moving up in weight after victory
LightweightUFC
July 25, 2020
Trinaldo defeated Jai Herbert via TKO (punches) at 1:30 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
It was an impressive stoppage win for Trinaldo that is largely negated by the fact he missed weight by four pounds on Friday. The fight was a back and forth affair, with Trinaldo taking Round 1 and Herbert storming back to dominate Round 2. Trinaldo connected with one big shot early in Round 3 that effectively ended the fight. He followed up with some needless shots before referee Herb Dean had finally seen enough. After the fight, Trinaldo announced he would be moving up to 170 pounds. It's the right call. Trinaldo turns 42 years of age next month and there's no reason for him to continue to put his body through the weight cut. The Brazilian is unlikely to be much of a factor at welterweight, but Trinaldo has consistently defied the odds throughout the course of his time with the company.

Decisions John Makdessi in Brasilia
LightweightUFC
March 14, 2020
Trinaldo defeated John Makdessi via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Brasilia, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Trinaldo attempted to remain his usual, aggressive self but Makdessi's constant retreating lead to an uneventful fight. The good news for the Brazilian is that since he was the one generating the offensive encounters between the two men, he took an easy decision. Trinaldo could never win a fight for the rest of his tenure with the company and his UFC career would have to be considered an overwhelming success. Saturday was Trinaldo's 20th fight with the UFC and he has posted a sterling 15-5 record in that time. He's one of the least athletic fighters on the roster and his foot work has all but evaporated but Trinaldo's power is legitimate and he's tough as nails. Trinaldo will turn 42 years of age this coming August. He still has value as long as the company is careful about who they match him up against.

Barely gets by Bobby Green
LightweightUFC
November 16, 2019
Trinaldo defeated Bobby Green via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
It was a typical Trinaldo fight in the sense that it went the distance and he emerged victorious. It was not, however, one of his better efforts. Facing an opponent who had been on the sidelines for nearly a year, the Brazilian looked just a tad off. He landed just 36 total strikes over the course of the 15-minute bout. By comparison, Green landed 67 total strikes. Yet Trinaldo did finish the bout strong and that was enough to earn the judge's decision. Trinaldo has been one of the sport's great overachievers over the course of the past five-plus years, but he finally appears to be slowing down at age 41. Trinaldo could retire tomorrow and his career would have to be considered a rousing success. He had now alternated wins and losses in his past seven bouts.
