Hammered by Chris Daukaus
September 25, 2021
Abdurakhimov lost to Chris Daukaus via TKO (strikes) at 1:23 of Round 2 at UFC 266 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Abdurakhimov had been on a decent run of late, winning three of his previous four fights, but he was no match for the much younger and more powerful Daukaus. He landed a handful of counter strikes in the early going, but things got worse and worse for him as the fight progressed. Abdurakhimov was nearly finished in the closing stages of Round 1, and it got no better for him in the early portion of Round 2. The incompetence of referee Mark Smith didn't help matters, as Abdurakhimov ended up eating several more additional shots than were necessary. Abdurakhimov turned 40 years of age earlier this month. He still has some gas left in the tank, but his previous three defeats -- Daukaus, Curtis Blaydes, Derrick Lewis -- is a clear indication the UFC has to be careful with who they match him up against moving forward.

Abdurakhimov will now take on Chris Daukaus on July 31, reports.
The fight has been pushed back a week due to COVID-19 protocols in Daukaus' camp. Abdurakhimov was supposed to fight Augusto Sakai back on May 1, but the bout was cancelled. This will be Abdurakhimov's first time in the Octagon since September of 2019 when he lost to Curtis Blaydes.
