Can't handle volume of Xiaonan
November 7, 2020
Gadelha lost to Yan Xiaonan via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN+ 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Gadelha came out early and was not afraid to jump in the pocket, landing a left jab that led to a takedown. Xiaonan got back to her feet but Gadelha was able to get double underhooks and keep her up against the fence for several minutes. The two were separated by Jason Herzog, but Gadelha timed another single-leg takdown and spent the rest of the round in top position. Despite the advantageous positioning, Gadelha did eat a big elbow that caused some swelling on her face. The second round was spent primarily on the feet, as Gadelha didn't really employ her wrestling much and elected to strike. It didn't go well, as Xiaonan started to pour on the volume, meeting Gadelha's strikes with quick combinations to pull away in the striking total. Gadelha did log some control time in the clinch in Round 3, but was unable to get the takedown and fell further behind in the striking department. Gadelha seems to be fading a bit, as she caught a big break when taking a split decision from Angela Hill her last time out and followed it up with a lopsided decision. It's back to the drawing board for the strawweight contender.

Xiaonan fight moving to November
September 3, 2020
Gadelha (knee) will fight Yan Xiaonan at the UFC event scheduled for November 7, reports.
Gadelha had to withdraw from the original date of September 26 due to a knee injury, but the UFC decided to keep the bout but move it back to early November. Gadelha will be looking for her third consecutive victory under the UFC banner following a controversial, split-decision win over Angela Hill in May.
Out of UFC 253 with knee injury
September 1, 2020
Gadelha withdrew Tuesday from her Sept. 26 strawweight fight with Yan Xiaonan at UFC 253, citing a knee injury, Guilherme Cruz of reports.
Gadelha was ruled out for the event after she recently traveled to the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas to have her knee examined. She'll put a two-fight winning streak on hold while recovering the injury, forcing the UFC to find a new opponent for Xiaonan on short notice.
Fight set for September 26
July 6, 2020
Gadelha will fight Yan Xiaonan in a strawweight matchup at UFC 253 on September 26, Raphael Marino of Combate reports.
The location for the fight has yet to be determined, though Las Vegas would seemingly be a frontrunner if the fight is held in the US. Gadelha last fought back in May when she defeated Angela Hill via a controversial split decision, effectively bringing her winning streak to two. Xiaonan, on the other hand, is a perfect 5-0 under the UFC banner, though Gadelha will arguably be her toughest test to date. Gadelha has a big edge in offensive wrestling volume, while the striking stats lie strongly in the favor of Xiaonan.
Barely gets by Angela Hill
May 16, 2020
Gadelha defeated Angela Hill via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Jacksonville.
Gadelha got a potential break in a fight that could have legitimately gone either way. Regardless of who may or may not have deserved to win, Claudia looked strong on the feet against one of the division's better strikers. She started quickly and ended strong. In between, Gadelha allowed Hill to score the biggest moment of the fight (a knockdown) in Round 2, but she rebounded quickly. The Brazilian has to be thrilled that she emerged victorious in a fight in which she landed just one successful takedown. A prolonged kickboxing match is never in Gadelha's best interests, but she got through this one. That being said, Claudia doesn't seem particularly close to the title conversation despite being one of the division's more popular names.
To face Hill on May 16
May 1, 2020
Gadelha will square off against Angela Hill on the UFC's May 16 card, Nolan King of reports.
Gadelha has had her last two fights cancelled. The first, because her opponent failed to make weight, and her second due to the COVID-19 situation. The third time will hopefully be the charm, as she will look to improve on her 6-4 UFC record. Her opponent, Hill, is just 7-7 in the UFC, but has some momentum with three consecutive victories.
