Gadelha was forced to withdraw from her fight against Cynthia Calvillo at UFC Washington DC scheduled for December 7 due to an ankle injury sustained in her last fight, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gadelha sustained finger and ankle injuries in her fight against Randa Markos, and while her finger recovered, she determined that her ankle would not be ready for her upcoming fight scheduled for UFC Washington DC. The 30-year-old opted to withdraw now so the promotion could have enough time to hopefully find a new opponent for Cavillo. Gadelha said she hopes to be ready to fight by the beginning of 2020.

Booked for DC in December

Gadelha will take on Cynthia Calvillo in a strawweight matchup at UFC Washington DC on December 7, Gene Wang of the Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Gadelha came away with a unanimous-decision victory over Randa Markos in her last matchup, which allowed her to bounce back from a loss to Nina Ansaroff in December. It was an opponent Gadelha was supposed to dominate on paper, but she ended up landed just 40 significant strikes in what was an underwhelming fight. She'll need to turn up the volume significantly against Calvillo, who is 5-1 under the UFC banner and coming off a win against Courtney Casey. Calvillo owns the edge in both offensive and defensive striking, but Gadelha should have an advantage in the ground exchange. There was a point when Gadelha was considered the clear-cut No. 2 female strawweight, but she'll need a dominant effort here in order to regain that image. Even after a win, momentum isn't on her side.

Gadelha defeated Randa Markos via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 239 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was the rare fight in which both competitors saw their stock drop. Gadelha won the bout because she was the one constantly pushing forward and dictating the pace of the action, but neither woman accomplished anything offensively over the course of the 15-minute fight. The Brazilian needed a victory any way she could get it following her crushing unanimous decision loss to Nina Ansaroff in December, but this performance won't have fans clamoring to see Gadelha back in the title picture at 115 pounds any time soon.

Gadelha will fight Randa Markos at UFC 239 in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 6, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
After undergoing knee surgery in July, Gadelha got back into the cage in December and suffered a brutal loss to Nina Ansaroff. She'll look to bounce back against Markos, who has a mediocre 9-6-1 record at the UFC level and also lost to Ansaroff via unanimous decision back in July.
Crushing loss to Nina Ansaroff at UFC 231

Gadelha lost to Nina Ansaroff via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 231 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing defeat for Gadelha in a fight in which she entered as a massive (-310) favorite. As has been the case in virtually every fight she struggles in, Claudia was smashed on the feet. Her striking defense is abysmal and her strong grappling couldn't make up the difference on Saturday. Gadelha turned 30 years old yesterday and she has displayed no signs of covering up the holes in her game. She's still good, one of the best the division has to offer, but her struggles on the feet will continue to result in her losing fights such as this one that she win.

Gadelha (knee) will fight Nina Ansaroff at UFC 231 on Dec. 8.
ANALYSIS
Gadelha underwent knee surgery back in June, but has apparently progressed as expected in her recovery and should be good to go by December. She's won three of her last four fights and is coming off a split decision victory over Carla Esparza in June. However, her opponent, Ansaroff, has been impressive as late as well, winning each of her last three fights, so both women should come into this matchup with some momentum. Ansaroff owns a one-inch height and reach advantage, though Gadelha appears to have the edge in experience with a 16-3 career record.
