Nguyen was released by the UFC on Friday, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS

Does little in loss to Wilson Reis
FlyweightOther
December 1, 2018
Nguyen lost to Wilson Reis via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Adelaide, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Nguyen (and his corner) kept waiting for Reis to tire out so he could take advantage and it never materialized. Giving up a ton of size and brute strength to his opponent, Nguyen was tasked with trying to win this fight on the feet and that's not really his style. The end result was a lopsided unanimous decision loss in his adopted home of Australia. Nguyen will display flashes of brilliance here and there, but he is far to inconsistent to be consider a real threat moving forward. Nguyen is 2-3 in his last three fights dating back to July 2016.
Taps out to Jussier Formiga Saturday in Perth
FlyweightOther
February 10, 2018
Nguyen lost to Jussier Formiga via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:43 of Round 3 at UFC 221 on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Nguyen was hanging around prior to the finish but once he allowed Formiga to take his back the fight was all but over. Ben looked far better in Round 2 than he did in Round 1. He got off to a rough start before he began to slowly land with a bit more regularity. He managed to fight off a pair of takedown attempts from Formiga but he also allowed the Brazilian to connect on a pair. Nguyen is now 2-2 in his last four fights. He has proven to be a useful member of the company's thinnest (flyweight) division but at age 29, it seems unlikely that he will ever be able to compete against elite competition.
Taps out Tim Elliott in 49 seconds Saturday
FlyweightOther
June 10, 2017
Nguyen defeated Tim Elliott via submission (rear-naked choke) at 0:49 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night 110 on Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand.
ANALYSIS
It doesn't get much more impressive. Facing an elite-level wrestler who is nearly impossible to control on the mat, Nguyen adjusted his body beautifully to get into position to clamp on the choke that ended the fight. Outside of a poor effort against Louis Smolka, "10" has looked like a top-five flyweight during his two-plus years with the company. Nguyen was originally supposed to face Joseph Benavidez Saturday before Joe B was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. Perhaps the UFC will try to set that fight up again.
Gets new opponent New Zealand
FlyweightOther
May 11, 2017
Nguyen will now take on Tim Elliott at UFC New Zealand on June 10, Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Nguyen's new opponent is active and has momentum, winning three of his last four, with his only loss being a five-round battle against champion Demetrious Johnson. Elliott may be ranked six spots lower than Nguyen's original opponent, Joseph Benavidez, but a win here should still warrant a top-five opponent in his next fight.
Will not fight Benavidez at UFC Fight Night
FlyweightOther
May 10, 2017
Nguyen's opponent for UFC Fight Night on June 10, Joseph Benavidez, has been pulled from the fight.
ANALYSIS
It remains unclear if UFC will find a replacement for Benavidez to keep Nguyen on the card. Nguyen is coming off a unanimous decision victory back in November, and would have to wait even longer to get back into the Octagon if no new opponent is found. The UFC will likely announce a decision in the coming weeks with updates on the status of the bout.
