South Korea

Drops fight in home nation
December 23, 2019
Ma lost to Omar Morales via unanimous decision (27-30, 26-30, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN+ 23 on Saturday in Busan, South Korea.
Ma may have lasted the full 15 minutes -- unlike his previous two fights -- but he still dropped his third bout in a row and was doubled up in the striking department. It was a prime opportunity for Ma to bounce back in his native South Korea, but it's fair to question his future with the UFC after another lackluster performance.

Billed for UFC Busan bout
November 1, 2019
Ma will face Omar Morales in a lightweight matchup at UFC Busan on December 21, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Ma was knocked out by Scott Holtzman in his last fight and missed weight as well, so this may be one of his final chances to bounce back under the UFC banner. The 30-year-old is 3-4 in his last seven fights, with all four losses come via knockout. Even with the home crowd behind him in Korea, he still enters the bout as a (+160) betting underdog.
Knocked out by Scott Holtzman
August 3, 2019
Ma lost to Scott Holtzman via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 5 on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.
To recap: Ma missed weight by two pounds on Friday, forfeited 20 percent of his purse to Holtzman to have the fight proceed, and then got beaten up so bad that the cageside doctor had to stop the proceedings at the end of the second round. Not a great 24-plus hours for "The Maestro". Ma is now 3-4 in his last seven fights dating back to November 2015, and most concerning of all is the fact he has been knocked out in all four of those setbacks. A late-career resurgence will not be forthcoming for the 30-year-old.
Will fight despite missing weight
August 2, 2019
Ma missed weight by two pounds for his welterweight bout against Scott Holtzman at UFC Newark on Saturday, but the fight is still on, Danny Segura of reports.
Ma is the second fighter to miss weight for the event in Newark but the fight will not be removed from the card. Rather, Ma will have to forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Holtzman on Saturday.
Added to Aug. 3 Fight Night card
June 8, 2019
Ma will fight Scott Holtzman at UFC Fight Night on Aug. 3, Nolan King of Flocombat reports.
Ma looks to bounce back from a one-sided loss at the hands of Devonte Smith, landing just one strike versus Smith's 19 before taking a loss via TKO. He will hold a two-inch height and one-inch reach advantage over Holtzman, but Holtzman has a more decorated history and seems likely to enter as the favorite.
Tastes the dust
February 9, 2019
Ma lost to Devonte Smith via via TKO (strikes) at 3:53 of Round 1 at UFC 234 on Saturday in Melbourne.
Ma did not have an answer for the power striking of Smith. He struggled to close the distance, but when he did, he ate power strikes from Smith. In the end, Smith closed the distance and came forward with hard strikes. Ma could not take the power and went down. Prior to this loss, Ma had won three fights in a row. He falls to 3-3 in the UFC.
