Remains undefeated in UFC
FeatherweightUFC
July 13, 2019
Hall defeated Darren Elkins via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Hall is going to present a dilemma for the UFC. On one hand, he is undefeated with the company (4-0) and one of the most unique fighters in the sport. On the other, Hall's tendency to disengage from his opposition and roll around on the mat makes for uneventful television. Hardcore MMA fans are going to appreciate Hall's creativeness and submission skills, but there are far less of those out there than casual fans. The UFC has had problems finding opponents for Hall in the past and that could very easily continue in the future. It will be fascinating to see if Hall's style of fighting will work against the best featherweights on the roster. Hall has shockingly few MMA miles on his body for a fighter set to turn 35 years old next February.

Fighting Elkins at UFC Sacramento
FeatherweightUFC
May 14, 2019
Hall will face Darren Elkins in a featherweight matchup at UFC Sacramento on July 13.
ANALYSIS
Hall is 7-1 as a pro and 3-0 in UFC, with his most recent victory coming by heel hook submission in the first round against B.J. Penn. A win over Penn in 2019 is relatively meaningless, however, so a matchup against Elkins will be a major step up in competition, even with Elkins coming off back-to-back losses. Hall has yet to be truly challenged by a striker in the UFC, as he's absorbed just 17 strikes that were counted as "significant" over his first three bouts with the promotion. Look for that to change against Elkins, a fighter who is not afraid to bite down on his mouthpiece and step forward. Hall would be wise to look for the takedown early, as he's highly regarded for his mat skills, with three submissions -- two via heel hook -- in seven professional fights. Elkins has just a 57 percent takedown defense during his run with the UFC.
Inks extension with UFC
FeatherweightUFC
May 6, 2019
Hall has a new contract with the UFC and is hopeful to book a fight this summer, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Hall is undefeated under the UFC banner with two decisions and one submission, most recently picking up a win over B.J. Penn last December. The ceiling could be limited for the 34-year-old, though he recently announced a drop back to featherweight, which should give him a size advantage over most opponents, provided he can make the weight. His submission prowess should make him a good fantasy asset when pinned against a reasonable opponent.
Returning to 145
FeatherweightUFC
January 6, 2019
Hall will return to the featherweight division following his win over B.J. Penn at UFC 232, Jose Youngs of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hall won season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter reality show at lightweight, but upon entering the UFC, he immediately dropped down to 145. He moved back up to 155 for an opportunity to fight future hall-of-famer B.J. Penn, but believes his long-term home is at featherweight, unless a big name were to come calling. Hall claims he weighed in below the lightweight limit without having to cut weight for the Penn fight, so featherweight might be a more prudent home for the 5-10 fighter.
Submits UFC legend BJ Penn in Round 1
FeatherweightUFC
December 29, 2018
Hall defeated BJ Penn via submission (heel hook) at 2:46 of Round 1 at UFC 232 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Hall wanted to get the fight to the ground and Penn wanted to keep it standing. Hall attempted to get a trip takedown against the fence to start the fight. Penn did a great job of defending and Hall through a kick which caused him to slip. The BJJ expert beckoned for Penn to enter his guard, but "The Prodigy" chose to throw hard kicks to Hall's legs and buttocks. Hall eventually returned to his feet, feinted a kick and rolled for Penn's leg. He grabbed Penn's leg and sunk in the heel hook which forced the UFC legend to tap in seconds.
Will fight BJ Penn at UFC 232
FeatherweightUFC
September 12, 2018
Hall will fight BJ Penn in a lightweight bout at UFC 232 on December 29, Damon Martin of MMA Weekly reports.
ANALYSIS
The submission specialist will make his return to the octagon after two years, with his last fight being a unanimous decision victory Gray Maynard in December of 2016. Hall will look to move his record to 3-0 in the UFC, as he takes on UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn. Penn is also coming off a lengthy absence, with his last fight coming 18 months ago, which makes it difficult to predict the outcome.
