Bellator return date set
July 14, 2020
Pettis is in line to take on Ricky Bandejas in a flyweight matchup in Bellator's return to action July 24 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
Pettis began his run with Bellator in January, defeating Alfred Khashakyan via technical submission in the first round. He and the rest of the Bellator roster have been sidelined since March 13, however, as the company hasn't been quite as quick to return as the UFC. Nonetheless, there's now a return date set at a location very familiar with hosting Bellator events. It's unclear what other fights will show up on the card at this time, but a date and location is still a massive step for the company in moving forward from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Signs with Bellator
October 24, 2019
Pettis agreed to terms with Bellator on a multifight contract, where he will compete solely as a bantamweight, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
The 26-year-old competed as a flyweight and bantamweight in the UFC and was considered one of the top flyweights in the promotion, but he will fight solely as a bantamweight in Bellator since they do not have a male flyweight division. Pettis carries an 18-5 record as a professional fighter, including a record of 9-5 with UFC. He has dropped three of his last five fights, but is coming off a victory over Tyson Nam via unanimous decision. Pettis' debut with Bellator has not yet been set.
Could leave UFC
October 3, 2019
Updating a previous report, Pettis is now a free agent and is exploring options outside of the UFC, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
It was reported last week by multiple news outlets that Pettis had been booked to face Kai Kara-France at UFC 245 in December, but it appears that fight has since been scrapped. It makes sense that Pettis would at least want to explore his options if his contract is up, as the UFC hasn't been all that friendly to flyweights over the last few years. The company traded champion Demetrious Johnson to ONE FC, and forced many others in the men's 125-pound division to either move up in weight class or find other work. Pettis has historically fared much better at flyweight than bantamweight, so he's likely looking for more long-term security with a potential move.
To fight Kara-France at UFC 245
September 28, 2019
Pettis will face off against Kai Kara-France at UFC 245 in Las Vegas on Dec. 14, reports.
Pettis has dropped three of his past five fights. His most recent fight was a victory over Tyson Nam, who he defeated by unanimous decision. 12 of Pettis' 18 victories are by decision, while three are by submission and three are by KO/TKO.
Racks up another decision win
September 21, 2019
Pettis defeated Tyson Nam via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
Pettis continues to rack up the victories and he continues to do so without stopping his opposition. All nine of Sergio's UFC wins have come via decision, a trend that figures to cost the 26-year-old sooner rather than later. Pettis was able to control all the striking exchanges against the late notice, debuting Nam, but his inability to put away his competition remains a grave concern moving forward. Pettis has dabbled at bantamweight, but is far, far less intriguing at 135 pounds. He needs to hope the UFC keeps their flyweight division around.
Gets new opponent for UFC Mexico City
August 28, 2019
Pettis (17-5-0) is now scheduled to face Tyson Nam (19-9-1) in a flyweight fight Sept. 21 at UFC Mexico City after Alex Perez (undisclosed) was removed from the card, KHON 2 Honolulu reports.
With Perez bowing out of the matchup, Pettis will look to put his two-fight losing streak to an end against a UFC newcomer in Nam, who has most recently competed for the Hawaii-based X-1 World Events promotion. Both of Pettis' losses came in the bantamweight division, so a move back to the flyweight ranks may help his chances of getting back on track.
