Shows tremendous heart in loss
June 22, 2019
Spicely lost to Deron Winn via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
Spicely took this fight on about a week's notice after other fights fell through, and absorbed everything his opponent could dish out, eating huge hooks and uppercuts to the body and head before the final bell. The BJJ black belt had some success in the clinch, rocking his opponent on at least one occasion. but was unable to move forward and find a finish. Spicely won two fights in other organizations after being cut from the UFC, and while it's likely he will get at least one more bout, he remains a sub-par kickboxer with no consistent way of getting the fight to the ground, which will make it difficult for him to consistently win fights at this level. He falls to 12-5 in professional MMA as a result of the loss, but on the bright side, will take home $50,000 for participating in the event's Fight of the Night.
