Spicely will square off against Markus Perez in a middleweight matchup at a yet-to-be-determined location Aug. 1, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Spicely was scheduled to take on Roman Kopylov at UFC Columbus in late-March before the COVID-19 outbreak indefinitely suspended all events. He will wait more than a year before returning to the Octagon following a loss via unanimous decision last June and is still in search of his first UFC victory since January of 2017 versus Alessio Di Chirico.

Spicely will face Puna Soriano in a middleweight bout at UFC Columbus on March 28, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Spicely has gone through a rough stretch recently, most recently losing to Deron Winn via unanimous decision at UFC Greenville in June after taking the fight on short notice. Soriano made his UFC debut in December after earning a contract in Dana White's Contender Series, defeating Oskar Piechota via KO (punch) at UFC 245. The aggressive win brought Soriano's professional record to 7-0-0. While Spicely has an extensive history with the promotion, he'll likely need to turn things around soon in order to have a future under the UFC banner. Spicely has a slight height advantage while Soriano carries a reach advantage.

Shows tremendous heart in loss
MiddleweightUFC
June 22, 2019
Spicely lost to Deron Winn via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Spicely took this fight on about a week's notice after other fights fell through, and absorbed everything his opponent could dish out, eating huge hooks and uppercuts to the body and head before the final bell. The BJJ black belt had some success in the clinch, rocking his opponent on at least one occasion. but was unable to move forward and find a finish. Spicely won two fights in other organizations after being cut from the UFC, and while it's likely he will get at least one more bout, he remains a sub-par kickboxer with no consistent way of getting the fight to the ground, which will make it difficult for him to consistently win fights at this level. He falls to 12-5 in professional MMA as a result of the loss, but on the bright side, will take home $50,000 for participating in the event's Fight of the Night.
