The Mercenary
Has a tough night on the ground at Bellator 204
MiddleweightBellator
August 17, 2018
Matthews lost to Logan Storley via TKO (punches) at 3:56 of Round 2 at Bellator 204 on Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
ANALYSIS
This was always going to be a struggle for Matthews. He comes from a striking background, and Storley is a plus wrestler. The former Minnesota wrestler was able to land takedowns and really make an impact with his ground and pound striking. Matthews did his best to survive on the ground, but at some point it was simply too much. Matthews is normally an exciting fighter who will likely stick around Bellator and never sniff the title picture.

Matthews lost to Hisaki Kato via TKO (punches) at 4:58 of round at Bellator 162 on Friday in Memphis, Tenn.
ANALYSIS
Matthews was more than happy to engage in a striking battle with Kato. He landed some solid shots early and appeared to hurt his opponent. Matthews did not go for the finish, and Kato recovered. After a break in the action due an eye poke, Matthews did not appear to be the same fighter. Kato walked him down and unleashed a barrage of strikes that ultimately lead to the finish. Due to his style, there will likely still be a place for Matthews in Bellator, but he is only 4-4 in the promotion
