Terrible performance in submission lost to Leon Edwards
WelterweightOther
October 8, 2016
Tumenov lost to Leon Edwards via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:01 of Round 3 at UFC 204 on Saturday in Manchester, England.
ANALYSIS
It was a disturbing effort from Tumenov on numerous levels. Coming off a poor performance against Gunnar Nelson in his last fight in May, Tumenov once against got off to a slow start. He spent nearly four minutes of the first round on his back, and although Tumenov's effort level improved considerably when the two men returned to the feet in Round 2, he found himself on the mat once again in Round 3. Tumenov is as talented a striker as there is in the welterweight division, but he is quickly earning a reputation as a guy who can't win anything other than a kickboxing match.

Albert Tumenov: Struggles on ground in loss to Gunnar Nelson
WelterweightOther
May 8, 2016
Tumenov lost to Gunnar Nelson via submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 3:15 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
ANALYSIS
In the battle of Tumenov's striking skills and Nelson's ground game, Tumenov lost. During the brief striking exchanges between the two, Tumenov unsurprisingly got the better of Nelson, but he spent far too much time on the mat and he was never able to recover. The loss snaps a five-fight winning streak for Tumenov. At age-24, Tumenov is young enough and athletic enough to make strides in his grappling game, but it is quite clear that better fighters are going to to make him prove his worth on the ground. Only a fool would get into a kickboxing match against Tumenov. This is an obvious setback, but the Russian remains a promising prospect moving forward.
Albert Tumenov: Enters as favorite for fight against Gunnar Nelson
WelterweightOther
May 7, 2016
Tumenov (-170) is the favorite for his welterweight fight against Gunnar Nelson that will take place at UFC Fight Night on Sunday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
ANALYSIS
Regular viewers of UFC programming are already well aware of the potential greatness that Tumenov brings to the table, but this is the opportunity for him to build his following amongst the casual fan base. The heavy-handed Tumenov has won five fights in a row and he has just one loss dating back to May 2011. Trying to stop Nelson on the ground could certainly prove to be a massive challenge for Tumenov, but this is a guy who has striking skills reminiscent to current UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler. Tumneov is a savage on the feet and if he can get by Nelson, he’s a dark horse to have title-implicating bouts in the next 12-18 months.
Albert Tumenov: Takes close split decision from Lorenz Larkin at UFC 195
WelterweightOther
January 2, 2016
Tumenov defeated Lorenz Larkin via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC 195 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was expected to be a kickboxing match and that's exactly what we got. Tumenov was easily the more effective puncher, but he ate far too many leg kicks from Larkin. The concern for Tumenov is going to come when he takes on a guy who can wrestle. He has the striking skills to defeat any welterweight in the world, but we know next to nothing about Tumenov's ground game. The welterweight division is deep, but Tumenov has a real case to find himself in the back half of the top-10. He is going to get high profile fight his next time out. The Russian has now racked up five wins in a row.
WelterweightOther
December 31, 2015
Tumenov (-260) is the favorite for his welterweight fight against Lorenz Larkin that will take place on Saturday at UFC 195 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The Russian finds himself as one of the bigger favorites on the card. Tumenov isn't particularly well known amongst casual fans, but he is one of the brighter prospects in all of MMA. Known for his elite, all-world striking skills, Tumenov has won four fights in a row since dropping a split decision to Ildemar Alcantara in his UFC debut in February 2014. 11 of Tumenov's 16 career wins are by KO/TKO and he has ten first-round finishes under his belt.
Albert Tumenov: Step up in competition against Lorenz Larkin
WelterweightOther
October 22, 2015
Tumenov will fight Lorenz Larkin at UFC 195 on January 2 in Las Vegas, UFC.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It is a much needed step up in competition for Tumenov, who is coming off a dominant first round knockout win over Alan Jouban earlier this month. He is a particularly well known name, but Tumenov has the ability to become a force in the welterweight division. If he can get by Larkin, Tumenov will almost certainly find himself ranked in the top-10.
