Suffers third-straight stoppage loss Saturday in Calgary
WelterweightUFC
July 28, 2018
Herrera lost to Devin Powell via KO (body kick) at 1:52 of Round 1 at UFC on FOX 30 on Saturday in Calgary.
ANALYSIS
Herrera and Powell set an extremely high pace for the 112 seconds that the fight lasted, but the end result was a third straight stoppage loss for Herrera. He was unable to damage Powell despite landing a big counter shot early on and stuffing an early takedown attempt. Having fought just once a year since his debut in November 2015, it's entirely possible that Herrera won't be given a fifth fight with the company. The UFC brass has little reason to keep him around at this point.

Herrera was defeated by Jordan Rinaldi via submission (Von Flue Choke) at 2:01 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night 114 on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
This was a quick fight. The fighters felt each other out for the first minute of the fight as Herrera was looking to find his range and land a big shot. As was expected, Rinaldi shot for a takedown, but he got caught on the way in. The punch from Herrera made it a sloppy shot, and Herrera caught him in a submission. However, the Mexican welterweight did not have the technical ability to finish the submission, and Rinaldi was able to pass to side control. From side control, Rinaldi was able to lock in the submission and end the fight quickly. Herrera has a lot of power, but he needs to work on his grappling to be successful in the UFC.
