USA
Comes up short in upset bid
Phillips lost to A.J. McKee via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at Bellator 171 in Mulvane, Kan. on Friday
ANALYSIS
Phillips wanted to play the role of spoiler. He had his moments, but he was simply was not active enough to sway the judges. McKee stayed on the outside and landed virtually at will. Phillips waited to counter, but McKee was often out of range by the time Phillips threw. Even though he could not pull the upset, Phillips proved that he belonged in the Bellator cage.
