Cathal Pendred: Announces retirement
WelterweightUFC
November 25, 2015
Pendred announced his retirement from active MMA competition on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It's the right decision. Pendred was probably looking at a release if he didn't hang up his gloves. Pendred tapered off at the end of his career, losing his last two fights, but still accrued a record of 17-4-1 while fighting in the welterweight division.

Cathal Pendred: Once again looks awful in loss to Tom Breese
WelterweightUFC
October 24, 2015
Pendred lost to Tom Breese via TKO at 4:37 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Dublin.
ANALYSIS
It is by no means a stretch to say that Pendred is the worst fighter on the UFC roster. He has no athletic ability and he spends the vast majority of his fights serving as a punching bag for his opponents. There isn't much else to add, it was just another ugly performance for Pendred, his third in roughly three months. Pendred certainly deserves to be released, but it wouldn't be a shock to see the UFC keep him around and have him fight on another card in a city with a large Irish population.
Cathal Pendred: Will Fight Tom Breese In Dublin October 24
WelterweightUFC
August 3, 2015
Pendred will face Tom Breese at UFC Fight Night on October 24 in Dublin, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After back-to-back terrible efforts, Pendred is hopeful that performing in front of the hometown fans will turn his luck around. The bigger issue is that Pendred is one of the poorer athletes on the UFC roster and that is going to make it difficult for him to win fights moving forward.
Cathal Pendred: Drops Split Decision To John Howard At UFC 189
WelterweightUFC
July 11, 2015
Pendred lost to John Howard via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 189 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was another dreadful performance from Pendred (his second in three weeks, although he won the first one). Simply put, he's a stiff fighter and he isn't athletic enough to beat better fighters. The only real offense that Pendred got off in the bout were some knees from the clinch, and the only reason those were successful were because he had a big time height advantage over Howard. Pendred is one of the biggest fighters in the welterweight division, but that's about all he has going for him.
Cathal Pendred: Tough Bout Against John Howard Saturday
WelterweightUFC
July 7, 2015
The betting line between Pendred and John Howard is even heading into their welterweight bout at UFC 189 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's not often that you see an even betting line, but that's how close these two fighters are in terms of ability. It must be noted that Pendred is coming into the bout on extremely short notice. He fought at UFC 188 less than a month ago. He has an undefeated 4-0 record with the company thus far.
Cathal Pendred: Steps Up To Fight John Howard At UFC 189
WelterweightUFC
June 23, 2015
Pendred will step in to face John Howard on short notice at UFC 189 on July 11 in Las Vegas, UFC.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pendred will replace Brandon Thatch, who is moving up on the card to face Pendred's teammate Gunnar Nelson. Pendred fought just 10 days ago at UFC 188, a unanimous decision win over Augusto Montano in one of the most boring bouts you'll ever see. Pendred even posted on Twitter that he was willing to fight Rick Story this coming Saturday in Hollywood, Florida, but the UFC decided against making that matchup. Obviously, the guy likes to stay active.
