Suffers first career loss
Almeida lost to Roman Kopylov via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
The game plan for Kopylov was evident early on, as Almeida seemed incapable of getting back to his feet after getting taken down. While he showed the ability to stuff takedowns and pull away on strike totals in Round 2, the Brazilian spent the majority of the third frame on his back, which led to the loss. We've seen how explosive "Cesinha" can be on the feet, but it's not often fighters at this level will be able to use offense as their takedown defense, as Almeida was able to do in his KO/TKO win over Dylan Budka in April. With just six fights to his name, a learning curve is to be expected, but at 36 years old, Almeida doesn't have much time to sure up his skills. He falls to 5-1 in professional MMA due to the loss.

Facing Kopylov at UFC 302
Almeida will face Roman Kopylov in a middleweight bout at UFC 302 on June 1, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Almeida is coming off his first official UFC fight on April 6 where he defeated Dylan Budka via TKO. He will look to build off of that win and remain undefeated as he takes on Kopylov in June.

Picks up win in UFC debut
Almeida defeated Dylan Budka via TKO (strikes) at 2:13 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Although this was just his fifth professional bout and first official fight with the UFC, Almeida's physical gifts are obvious. The guy is in great shape and has high-end stopping power. He was able to carve Budka up midway through Round 2 after a close opening round that could have gone either way. Cesar's biggest issues moving forward are his age an inexperience. It's difficult to envision a guy with so few pro fights making a run given the fact he turned 36 years of age last week.

Given new opponent
Almeida is scheduled to compete against Dylan Budka in a middleweight fight at UFC Vegas 90 on April 6, per Nolan King of USA Today.
ANALYSIS
Almeida was expected to fight Josh Fremd, but he withdrew from UFC Vegas 90. So instead, Almeida will fight Budka, a 24-year-old who recently won a UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series.

Next matchup booked
Almeida (undisclosed) agreed to fight Josh Fremd in a middleweight bout at UFC's April 6 event, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Almeida was poised to make his UFC debut in November against Christian Leroy Duncan but was forced to withdraw due to an unspecified surgery. Fremd is coming off a loss to Roman Kopylov in September but won his previous two fights.
