Chase Gormley

Fails to breakthrough against Sergei Kharitonov
HeavyweightBellator
March 31, 2017
Gormley lost to Sergei Kharitonov via KO (Punch) at 3:55 of Round 1 at Bellator 175 on Friday in Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Gormley looked solid early in this fight. He was the much more active fighter as he darted in and out. He scored with punches and kicks and was well on his way to winning the round. However, Kharitonov came forward with a combination that finished the fight. Gormley has always been a solid heavyweight, but he has never been able to break through against top-level heavyweights. He is now 2-2 in Bellator and 14-6 overall.

Takes close decision over Bobby Brents
HeavyweightBellator
October 21, 2016
Gormley defeated Bobby Brents via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at Bellator 162 on Friday in Memphis, Tenn.
ANALYSIS
Despite coming in as a betting favorite, Gormely was never able to get on track in this fight. He appeared to be the bigger and taller fighter, but he could stop Brents jump-in hook. On the few occasions he went for takedowns, he also struggled there. He got a takedown late in round three, but Brents was able to get back to his feet. The only round he clearly deserved to win was the second round where he mostly stayed on the outside and landed a few shots.

Gormley will enter his heavyweight bout with Dan Charles as a -300 favorite at Bellator 143 on Friday in Hidalgo, Texas.
ANALYSIS
Anything can happen in the heavyweight division, but Gormley has faced (and beaten) better competition than his opponent. Having completed an unsuccessful two fight stint in the UFC, Gormley has gotten his career back on track -- most recently defeating former UFC fighter Jon Madsen by five round decision in Titan FC. Gormley will look to pick up his sixth straight victory at Charles' expense in his Bellator debut.
